EASY TO JOIN

From joining to support

Five steps. Nothing hidden, and nothing that depends on who you know.

1

Register your interest

Email us your name and how to reach you. We send you the membership application in reply.

2

Read, complete and submit your application

Your details, family and next-of-kin — no identity documents needed. The Committee decides within five days.

3

Tell us who is supported

You list your family as the By-Laws define it. There is no set number — your list should reflect the family you actually have, and listing more does not change what you pay.

4

Pay your $250

Over three months, in instalments if you prefer. Remember to quote your membership number as the payment reference, so it's matched to your record without delay. Your support begins once it is paid in full and your details are complete.

5

In the unfortunate event of a loss

Tell us — that is all you need to do first. Three Committee members complete the checks within fourteen days, and support is released to help with the arrangements.

ABOUT US

What we do, and who we support

This Welfare does one thing: it helps a member's family give their loved one a decent and dignified send-off. We have kept it deliberately narrow so that it works, every time, for everyone.

Up to $4,500

Toward a dignified farewell

The maximum support available in the unfortunate event of a loss, once you have completed three months of membership — granted at the Committee's discretion, capped to protect the fund for every family who may need it.

14 days

Confirmed, then paid

We complete our checks within fourteen days of being told. Support follows straight after.

$250

To join

Payable over your first three months. You may pay in instalments.

Your family, as you actually have it

We do not ask you to choose between your relatives, or to rank them. Everyone within these family relationships is recognised automatically.

Your family, as the By-Laws define it

  • You, the member
  • Your spouse or partner
  • Your children
  • Your parents
  • Your brothers and sisters
No set number, and no extra costWe do not limit how many people you may list. What matters is that your list is consistent with your family as the By-Laws describe it — however large that family is. A member with eight children is supported for all eight, and it does not change what they pay. We would rather your family were recorded honestly than trimmed to fit a form.
What is not supported
  • Returning a loved one to Kenya or another country — please consider private insurance for this
  • Medical costs, hardship, education or any other assistance — this Welfare provides support for bereavement only
  • Where the same loved one is family to two members, this is one event and one payment is made — increased to reflect that the loss falls on more than one household

Your first three months

Support builds over your first three months and reaches its full guideline amount once you have completed three months of membership. This protects the fund, and every member, so that support is there for everyone when it is needed.

This is a Committee guideline, not a fixed public scheduleThe exact figure available at each stage is set internally by the Committee and applied at its discretion — it is not published here as a guaranteed entitlement table, and amounts may vary case by case. The same guideline applies equally to every member; nobody's application is treated differently because of who they are.
COMMUNITY WE TRUST

Nobody decides alone

A welfare fund lives or dies on trust. These are the rules we bound ourselves with.

Three review, three sign

Every request is reviewed electronically by three Committee members, and every payment is signed off electronically by all three — never a majority, and never one person acting alone.

A separate account

Welfare money is held apart from the main group's funds, with three signatories, all three of whom must approve every payment.

You are told, every time

After every event we report to members: what was paid, what remains, and what top-up is needed.

An independent panel

If you disagree with a decision, five members — four of them ordinary members — review it. Anyone with a conflict steps out.

Checks made gently

A notification from a hospital or medical report is enough. We confirm it ourselves by calling the authority. We will never ask a grieving family for paperwork they cannot reasonably get.

Your business stays yours

Reports to members are in totals only. Your family's circumstances are never published to the group.

FAQS

The questions people actually ask

You can also ask Mzee — our FAQ helper in the top-right corner — for a quick answer drawn from these same published facts.

Is this insurance?

No. This is a community fund, not an insurer, and it does not guarantee payment. Support is provided at the Committee's discretion, under our By-Laws, up to a maximum of $4,500 per event — it is not an entitlement, an insurance benefit, or a guaranteed sum. The cap exists to protect the fund's sustainability for every family who may need it, not to limit what any one family receives.

Do I get my $250 back if I leave?

No. Your contribution joins a common pool that helps whoever needs it next. It is not a savings account and there is no refund.

What if I cannot pay a top-up?

Talk to us. There is a grace period, and the Committee can waive or extend on compassionate grounds. We would rather keep you than lose you.

How many relatives can I list?

There is no set number. List your family as the By-Laws describe it — however many that is. It does not change what you pay.

What if we lose someone in Kenya?

You are still supported. We confirm it through the hospital or authority there. This does not extend to the cost of bringing a loved one to or from Kenya.

Who sees my information?

Only those who need it to do their job. Sensitive cases are restricted further, and reporting to members is always in totals.
